Images must be of geological subjects, animals, insects, reptiles, marine or plant life, such that a well-informed person could testify of its true representation. Photographs depicting human elements, cultivated plants, domestic animals, still life studies, mounted specimens or museum exhibits are not permitted. Only images that do not alter the truth of the photographic statements are eligible in this section, and manipulation is not allowed. Photojournalism Images must have informative content and/or emotional impact, including human interest, documentary and news. The journalistic value of the image will be considered over the pictorial quality. In the interests of credibility, images which misrepresent the truth, and which alter the subject matter or situation, or which are set up for the purpose of photography, are unacceptable in this section.Manipulation is not allowed. Altered Reality This may be defined as the creative use of any technique to alter the recorded image in a way that simulates or produces an artistic representation. An image in which the photographic truth has been altered would fit into this section. In this section manipulation is the key to a successful image. The normal PSSA rules apply, such as that the manipulation must be done by the author, and the original image must have been captured by a camera. Slide techniques such as double exposures, sandwiching of slides etc are considered manipulation. Pictorial These are images which do not fall into the other sections. They include portraiture, travel, sport, flowers, fashion, architecture etc. Otherwise there is no restriction on subject matter. Pictures that qualify for any other section should be entered in that section. Moderate manipulation is allowed. Landscapes Any city- land- or seascapes are allowed with or without man made elements. Nature - Birds Only Images must be of birds only (birds must be the main subject), such that a well-informed person could testify to its true representation. Still life studies, mounted specimens, museum exhibits are not allowed. In terms of PSSA definition, digital manipulations are not allowed. Only images that do not alter the truth of the photographic statement will be eligible in this category. Only Birds may be entered in this category |
